HISTORY

In the spring of 2020, all corporate worship ceased in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus known as COVID-19. A few families who had retreated to Lake Martin began to meet and listen together to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Montgomery radio broadcast, social distancing and meeting in open air spaces. The group grew as word of the gathering spread to others who were also seeking retreat at Lake Martin during the shutdown.

By His grace, Alabama churches later reopened, and the "lake congregation" returned to their places of corporate worship. However, God had used this time to plant the seed for a new reformed congregation in the lake community. The small group continued to meet for Bible study and fellowship twice a month on Sunday evenings in their homes and local community spaces. During those years, God added even more people to their number. Through continued prayer, the unofficial group began to seek guidance from pastors and church planting consultants on the possibility of establishing a PCA church in the Lake Martin community.

On October 24, 2023, the Southeast Alabama Presbytery appointed leadership and established Lake Martin Mission Church as a mission church in the Presbyterian Church in America. Two weeks later, on November 12, 2023, the newly organized church held its inaugural worship service at the Red Hill Community Center. In her first year, Lake Martin Mission Church admitted 23 members, along with many regular attendees and returning visitors.

We have been grateful for God’s provision of the pulpit supply of many varied and gifted preachers, along with dedicated and talented musicians that have enhanced our Sunday morning worship.

On July 13, 2025, the congregation voted unanimously to call William Skinner to be our pastor. He will be joining us later in 2025, and we are so thankful for God's provision of William, Niland and Hampton to our church.

On August 3, 2025 Lake Martin Mission Church held its first service at Watson Chapel. A few weeks later on August 26, 2025, we were made a "particular church" in the PCA by the Southeast Alabama Presbytery at their meeting in Brewton.
